Moving On
Last week a female friend gave me a call. We caught up on things a little bit-some things don’t change too quickly-and she told me something new that had improved within her relationship with her husband. “It got better,” she said, “because we sat down and finally talked about divorce, among other things. Now things are out in the open-including his going out with other girls and my needing to find someone for myself.” She paused, then added: “Actually, the fighting in the house has dropped tremendously because now there’s nothing to hide. We’ll probably even be better friends now.” She gave a sort of laugh. She felt a combination of relief and sadness at the same time. Now there was no longer any guessing. Divorce would be inevitable but no longer would she spend a lot of her time trying to recapture her husband’s attention, since it so apparently was no longer there.
Soon after our conversation, she posted an ad. Gone was the guilt of looking for someone while she still had been married; gone was the need to try and outdo her husband who had already moved on.
