Just Around the Corner

When one comes to a personals site, this means that somewhere in that person’s life, things have come to a standstill. Maybe you’re living with someone and the relationship has not turned out as you hoped; maybe you’re married and desperately lonely; maybe you’re divorced and ready to chance love again; maybe you’re single and looking for someone special for the first time. Regardless of what situation you may find yourself in, love is always around the corner, just hoping to bump into you.
It’s easy to believe, after a painful relationship or marriage, that a new relationship will come along and become more of what you have always yearned for, always truly wanted to feel. It is also true that because we’ve had that painful relationship in whatever capacity is was (a marriage or living together), that we now fear a new relationship won’t be in the cards for us; or if it is, that somehow it will turn out to be a not-so-good one again. None of us want to repeat the mistakes that we’ve made in the past and all of us really do want love in our lives on a daily, steady basis.
So what are we to do when we are at the crossroad where your mind tells you: “You know, this just may be it.” What do we do then?
My first response was to write about it. My second response was to look at that thought and acknowledge that it is a possibility –and that’s it. Just leave it at that, look at it calmly and then search within yourself carefully to see if, despite the possible reality, that you still have a belief or sense that things will be different. If you find that there is still a part of you that is remaining open to the possibilities of love re-entering your life someday, then you guard that candle within your heart and you keep it lit. That task is ours alone, each one of us, as individuals.
The third thing that I do is to start looking around for some way to take care of myself better. Have I been putting off learning something, doing something or enjoying something because I’ve been waiting to be found by someone special? Don’t keep putting off living life. Start living it in this moment of this day. It’s all we have, really.
Discouragement is easy to come by sometimes, but it passes. Like the sea that sprays its foam upon the rocks, emotions flow through us that represent both happy and not-so-happy feelings. It’s okay to be uncertain sometimes, just like its normal and okay to feel more confident at other times. Move forward when you can and be a bit gentler to yourself when you start to waver. You will become strong and positive again, and who knows? That just might be when you bump into love just around the corner.
