I Wish My Wood wouldn't Swell!!
It makes it hard to open the back door on damp days...and impossible to carry swollen wood in for the open fire. Perhaps better lubrication might help - Kiwilicious
..I use to have that same problem....at The Cottage...
..I got a cat...
.....and stayed indoors....*petting*....*wink*- VelvetMist
Is petting the same as necking, Vel? Hmmm, I dunno, that might cause more problems with the wood swelling.- Kiwilicious
...HEY...My *Winkie* Got BIGGER!!!!
..it Pays to *Pet* Kitty...VelvetMist
What if one is allergic to kitties? Maybe I'll go polish some wood, Vel...Kiwilicious
Proper lubrication always helps things ease in and out so much easier and produces that ahhhhh feeling as well! - HottieJodie
If you lay out your swollen wood on the hearth beside a lit fire, it will generally lose its extra girth and clammy feel after a while.
There is no often need for lubrication or polish: a few swift bangs can usually release whatever was causing the jam, but be careful not to warp it by too much tugging.- rhino9784
Is this the voice of experience, Jodie? - Kiwilicious
Oh my Rhino! And umm, have you laid your swollen wood by the hearth before?
Those swift bangs sound a little painful mind you, can't we do it another way? - Kiwilicious
Yes, I had a whole load of swollen wood a few winters ago and used this method most effectively.
As an alternative to the swift bangs (it's all in the wrist action) you could try easing it with a shoehorn or pressing your body evenly along its length, using your weight to rhythmic press against it to get it to give. - rhino9784
Maybe some coal for that wood...to help keep the embers burning. Hmmm, or maybe it's all in the way I stack it...on the hearth. - Kiwilicious
